The International Hernia Collaboration Annual Meeting for 2022 will be in Costa Rica April 5-7. This in-person and virtual meeting will demonstrate the highest caliber of hernia-based education in a culturally inclusive and supportive environment. The meeting will consist of talks, lectures and educational videos demonstrating the latest techniques and education specifically about hernia surgery and hernia-related issues.
At IHC 2022, internationally renowned faculty surgeons from the United States, Europe and Latin America will be collaborating and providing expert talks and answering questions in panel forum from the audience. The meeting will be in English, with Spanish translation available.
The main meeting spans 2 days. The talks and discussions overlay the theme of collaboration and camaraderie, with the primary goal of serving the local surgeon population while simultaneously broadcasting to the over 11,000 international surgeon members of the IHC. Based on early feedback, we expect a large turnout of non-local surgeons also, from around the world.
The theme of the meeting is “Todos Juntos,” which means “All Together” in Spanish. In addition to lectures and expert panel discussions, industry and surgeon interaction will be encouraged with creative cultural celebrations. Social interaction opportunities will be available to facilitate networking. After the 2-day meeting, the faculty will be performing live surgery, such as for the indigent population, while livestreaming the operations in the IHC Facebook live platform as a means of teaching via social media while also providing local humanitarian aid. In addition, we will continue our tradition of hosting an IHC Women in Surgery dinner, which has become a popular networking event connecting local women surgeons with those from the invited faculty and visiting from other countries, in a supportive and friendly environment.
In the tradition of the International Hernia Collaboration, the educational objectives are as follows:
- Update current hernia repair techniques

- Highlight the importance of gender considerations in hernia care
- Focus treatments to include individualized, culturally appropriate hernia care
- Celebrate the improvements in hernia care attributed to education via social media platforms such as IHC
- Analyze new tools available for hernia surgeons
- Assess the importance of evidence-based hernia repair techniques
A little more about the International Hernia Collaboration:
The mission of IHC is to improve and globally disseminate hernia care education through the online and in-person collaboration of international surgeons. By connecting the doctors, we connect their patients to better outcomes. IHC is a medium to disseminate education, knowledge, and collaboration for hernia surgery. We bring high-level cutting-edge congresses to our members’ home countries, so they do not have to travel to us. IHC currently has over 11,000 members from over 100 countries.
The purpose of your sponsorship of IHC 2022, is to support our annual international hernia conference planned for International Hernia Collaboration (IHC) members. The IHC is a virtual gathering of the international hernia surgeons.
Each year, our members manifest its mission in an annual meeting at a chosen international location. In the tradition of the IHC, this conference focuses on updating current hernia repair techniques and emphasizes perfecting individualized hernia repair based on each patient’s unique medical, surgical, and cultural needs. We discuss both open and minimally invasive surgical options.
The core principles of the IHC 2022 include education, inclusion, culturally appropriate care, camaraderie, and, of course, collaboration.
