Focusing on the Wellness of Body & Mind for the Surgeon
Welcome to the most ground-breaking, novel, unprecedented feature at a surgery meeting: The IHC Surgeon Wellness Center! This unique and progressive experience will allow surgeons to take a little time out of the meeting and to focus on themselves. Included in the registration fee, surgeons will have the opportunity to have sessions with various professionals that help surgeons maximize the wellness of their body and mind.
Purpose
The purpose of the Surgeon Wellness Center is to bring the topic of surgeon physical and emotional health to the forefront. Multiple studies show that surgeons suffer from a high level of occupational health problems such as neck, back and arm pain and pathology. This is due to a combination of ergonomic deficiencies and lack of physical training. The Wellness Center addresses the physical preparation, training, and recovery to minimize chances of physical strain and injury while operating. Along with the physical ailments come the challenges of mental and emotional strain leading to problems like burn-out. At the Wellness Center, the surgeon is viewed as a whole, body + mind, with the goal of maximizing all aspects of health and wellness.
Vision
The Surgeon Wellness Center will be functional for the entirety of the meeting. Several professionals and practitioners of wellness of the body & mind will be present to meet one-on-one with surgeons. Surgeons can sign up to see as many practitioners as they would like. Each professional will introduce his or her area of expertise to the surgeon and demonstrate specific techniques or practices that will maximize health and minimize injury.
